Giving with Purpose - Summer 2014
During the summer of 2014 I taught as a counselor in the Giving with Purpose camp. I along with the two other counselors, Shawn and May, helped two boys from China memorize and recite a play in front of their parents. The play we performed was “In Memory of Joe”, a play about the life of John F. Kennedy. The goal of the camp was to teach the boys about giving to charities and how important it is to help others. The counselors did this by donating an amount of the money they earned to a charity and talked about the charity telling why they decided to donate there.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp
I chose
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. This is a camp which only allows children with illnesses attend it and lets them get away from the real world and have a place where there are people like them. I chose this camp because I agree with everything that they are doing and because I attended it on 3 separate occasions, each for the span of a week. They were very kind and gentle to me, and I had loads of fun participating in all of the activities which they offered. I just wanted to give back as much as I could to them because they helped me through a tough part of my life.
